Finally–the update you’ve all been waiting for

One of our golden sexlinks started laying this week.  Two other chickens don’t look too far behind.  Our chickens are all about 4 1/2 months old now and still no crowing.  Does that mean that we have 22 hens? (We do have one Phoenix rooster who is so far very timid and quiet).  I do have my suspicions about this chicken though:

We harvested our winter squash and pumpkins earlier this week:

I’ve got one of the squashes in the oven right now.  I hope it’s good!  OK, here’s something strange I didn’t expect.  When I went out to harvest these I noticed this:

They appeared out of nowhere and they’re huge!.  Is there any hope for them to ripen before the first frost?  The pumpkin has started to turn orange now.
